Vehicle Tax Rate in Nepal 2083/084: Bluebook Renewal Guide

If you own a vehicle in Nepal, keeping your Bluebook updated isn’t just paperwork — it’s one of the most important things you do every year. Miss your vehicle tax deadline, and the penalties start piling up fast. It’s the kind of thing that’s easy to forget until suddenly it’s very expensive.

Nepal’s federal structure means vehicle tax rates aren’t set by a single central authority. Each province — Bagmati, Koshi, Gandaki, and the rest — sets and collects its own rates. So what your neighbor in Pokhara pays might differ slightly from what you owe in Kathmandu. The core structure is the same, but the numbers can shift depending on where your vehicle is registered.

Here’s a breakdown of what you need to know for fiscal year 208/084 (2026/2027): rates across motorcycles, private cars, and electric vehicles, how to pay online, and what happens if you’re late.

Motorcycle & Scooter Tax Rates (2083/084)

Two-wheelers are the lifeline of Nepalese transport. The annual tax rate for motorcycles and scooters is based entirely on engine displacement measured in Cubic Capacity (CC).

The following table reflects the standard tax brackets for private two-wheelers, featuring the prominent Bagmati Province rates alongside general provincial averages:

Engine Capacity (CC)Bagmati Province Annual Tax (NPR)Other Provinces Average (NPR)
Up to 125 CC (e.g., Activa, Ntorq, Splendor)Rs. 3,000Rs. 2,500 – Rs. 2,800

Late Payment Fines & Penalties (The Penalty Structure)

Missing your deadline can make bluebook renewal incredibly expensive. Under the current transport regulations, you are granted a grace period, after which a percentage-based fine applies directly to your base tax amount:

  1. First 30 Days (After Expiry): 5% Penalty
  2. 31 Days up to 45 Days: 10% Penalty
  3. From 46 Days to the end of the Current Fiscal Year: 20% Penalty
  4. Exceeding the Fiscal Year (Up to 5 Years): 32% Penalty per year stacked on top of cumulative dues.

Pro-Tip: If your vehicle tax has been unpaid for over 5 years, your registration runs the risk of suspension, and clearing the dues requires special administrative clearance at the Transport Management Office (Yatayat Karyalaya).

  3. Kind Attention:
    Mr. Hemant K.C.

    Dear Sir,

Well, after paying the vehicle tax online through Nagarik Application as per the information mentioned above for my Bagmati Province registered 2 wheeler, is it possible to stamp the digital copy of the payment receipt as well as fill up the Blue Book with the renewal details and stamp it as well by visiting the nearest Transport Service Department located outside the Bagmati Province? Am presently residing at Birtamode (Koshi Province) and wish I can renew my Blue Book accordingly, your help and guidance on the matter would be greatly appreciated.

    Thank you.

    Best Regards,
    Diwakar Prasai

    Thank you.

    1. No, you cannot get your Blue Book stamped or updated at a Transport Management Office in Koshi Province for a vehicle registered in Bagmati Province. You have to visit a Bagmati Transport Management Office. I hope this clears your doubts.
